Gold Star Mothers Statue

Mount Vernon, NY

Revealed on Memorial Day 2025 in Hartley Park, the City of Mount Vernon presented the statue honoring the American Gold Star Mothers, those who lost their children during their service in the United States Armed Forces and created a memorial to remember their sacrifice.

On September 26th, The City of Mount Vernon held a dedication ceremony to the Gold Star Mothers, their loved ones and those who made the memorial possible.

Designer of the statue, David Abrevaya shared a speech with the public during the ceremony:

“Good morning,

I want to begin by giving thanks to God for bringing us together on this beautiful day to honor our Gold Star Mothers. As well as to the Director, Andrea Molina and Frank Di’Ambrosiofor putting the wonderful event together. My time here in Mount Vernon has shaped me both as a professional and as a person, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve this remarkable community.

Among the many projects I’ve had the privilege to work on for the City, this memorial holds a special place in my heart. It was born from a vision shared by Krystin Reed, the former Director of Veteran Affairs, and myself. Together, we sought to create a living tribute that captures the profound sacrifice of our Gold Star families. Through thoughtful collaboration and design, this memorial took shape, and I am immensely proud of the result we see today.

To the Gold Star Mothers gathered here: this day is for you. Your sons and daughters have made the ultimate sacrifice to defend the freedoms we cherish and the lives we live every day. Their courage and your strength inspire us all. It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the City of Mount Vernon and to play a small part in commemorating your extraordinary sacrifice.

May God bless our Gold Star Mothers, the City of Mount Vernon, and this great nation we call home.
